A Letter from Father Jacek
My dear people of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church,
Before I was stationed here at Our Lady of Czestochowa, I was invited to enjoy the Day of Consecration of the new church in 2001. I would say “what a beautiful Church and setting for a parish” and also “maybe one day I will be stationed there.” Well, I’ve been here as your pastor for almost 5 years and I still say some of the same things to myself. So many others have said the same things to me. We are fortunate to have one of the most beautiful Polish parishes in the North America, or even in the world. Now, however, I want to propose to you that we can make it even better. It is important to be Honoring Our Past, but even more important to be Building Our Future.
Our parish community has experienced a slow, but steady growth in our recent past and according to projected estimates that growth will only continue. Our present Church is truly beautiful, but there are many things that were not anticipated when our present Parish was established 27 years ago. I, the Advisory Board and the Building Committee of our Parish are proposing a major expansion of our sacred space with an eye on our future needs.
We have never had a proper Parish Hall: A Gathering Space for all to enjoy each other in fellowship before and after each Mass, a place for our Polish School and Religious Education, a library, offices, a wedding room or a practice room for music ministry. The storage spaces were probably inadequate years ago and now are woefully inadequate. Present Parish Hall, the one, tiny restroom no longer serves our expanding population. We also need easier access into our Church for our elderly who many times choose not to come because of their inability to maneuver the parking and the walking.
Some will say, “Why now, the price of gas is so high and our taxes are so high and life is so expensive?” Let me add…and getting more expensive! There is no perfect time for anyone to have a capital campaign. All we can do is trust in the Lord and your commitment to the Parish with your usual generous response. No one should be hurt by this campaign- financially or emotionally. If God has blessed you with adequate funds, then we ask you to pledge generously. If you are struggling, then we ask you to pray earnestly. If you fall somewhere between the two of the above, then we ask you to make a sacrificial pledge. I know it is hard to commit for sacrifice, however, I am asking you to trust in the Lord and step out in faith.
Again, I thank you for allowing me to be your pastor. I take pride in my position and I am most proud of you. Thank you for your faith, friendship and love of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Jacek Nowak, SChr
